Dr. Peak is a native of Alabama and graduated with honors from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he entered into general veterinary practice in Gulf Breeze, Florida for 4 years and during that time developed an interest in veterinary dentistry. He met his wife Erin in Gulf Breeze and was accepted to a veterinary dentistry residency position just one month before their wedding day. Luckily, Erin still married him! Within a month of their wedding, Mike and Erin moved to Dallas, Texas to begin his training under the guidance of Drs. Robert Wiggs and Heidi Lobprise, both Diplomates of the American Veterinary Dental College, at the Dallas Dental Service Animal Clinic. Dr. Wiggs and Dr. Lobprise were extremely influential in the development of Dr. Peak’s veterinary dentistry career and he cherishes his time spent in Dallas.

Following the residency and subsequently passing the Board certification examination, Mike and Erin moved back to Alabama temporarily and Mike practiced with Dr. Robert Gaddis (who now also is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College). They moved to Tampa in 2002 and purchased Tampa Bay Veterinary Dentistry, a veterinary dentistry referral only practice in Largo, Florida at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists. Over this time, he and Erin have had two boys, Matthew and Fletcher. Mike and Erin spend much of their time playing with and trying to keep up with their boys.

Dr. Peak has been active within the veterinary community as well. He has served on a number of committees within the American Veterinary Dental College including the Examination Committee, the Fiscal and Audit Committee, the Board of Directors, and served as it’s President from 2006-2008. He is a former Secretary and current President-elect of the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association. Mike has been the Program Chair for the Veterinary Dental Forum, and chair for the Veterinary Dental Oversight Group, a committee who oversees the operations for the Veterinary Dental Forum.

Mike enjoys interacting with other veterinarians and relishes the times when he can help other veterinarians or technicians “catch the fever” of veterinary dentistry or make a difference in a pet’s life.
